How to keep working as a musician during the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic affects everyone, and performing musicians are among those caught off-guard, with gigs and shows cancelled.

But if you create music from home, there are ways in which you can still keep working.

1) Create new music

If you are recording at home, you can try and create new songs during the time that you would have been performing.

If you can’t make music with your friends, why not connect with artists online to collaborate on a song? There are plenty of platforms out there where you can find fellow artists. Some of them are:

2) Learn online

If you don’t feel like or don’t want to create new songs, you can still apply to courses online and improve your producing. It is always a good idea to improve yourself, and with your shows cancelled, maybe you can learn more about production, mastering, recording? Maybe something you haven’t tried before? Always wondered if you could learn how to record audio, how to master, how to create that music video? Now is the time to sit down, grab a book or watch a course online, and improve yourself.

3) Master your songs at home

If you had planned to have your music mixed, mastered, or processed, there are still ways to master them.

CloudBounce offers an easy way to have your songs mastered online, for a very affordable price. With their “stay home” deal, you can even grab a year of unlimited mastering (as many songs as you want) for only $59. View the offer here.

In fact, why not master a few of your songs to find out how they sound their best?

4) Listen to music

If you have done all of the above, maybe you can just create a playlist with songs that you like, and get inspired. Maybe you will get inspiration for a new song? Also, try platforms such as SoundBetter to find songwriters, producers, and other creatives to collaborate with. Even with social distancing, we can still connect with fellow artists online.

5) Stream yourself singing / playing

Although it can be a problem for many artists to have their gigs cancelled, you could still live stream your performance, singing or playing. There are so many platforms where you can stream yourself, and maybe it can be great to connect with your listeners.

Most important: Stay positive, see that you listen to music to get inspired, and keep creating songs. We are all in this together.

We hope that this will help you, and make sure to share these tips with other musicians that you think could use them. Stay safe.
